The agreement marks a further expansion of Fuse's collaboration with the U.S. Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), deepening its integration into the U.S. nuclear security agency cooperation network.
This umbrella CRADA establishes a long-term framework for cooperation between Fuse and NNSS, with initial research projects focused on validating next-generation fusion technologies, advancing tritium capabilities, increasing neutron yield from pulsed fusion generators, and strengthening the U.S. domestic pulsed-power industrial base. The collaboration builds on Fuse's existing CRADAs with Los Alamos National Laboratory and Sandia National Laboratories, forming a comprehensive cooperation network within the NNSA system.
NNSS is an experimental, research, and training institution under the NNSA, providing unique capabilities that support nuclear stockpile stewardship, high-energy-density science, and other critical national security missions. Daniel Lowe, Principal Scientist for the NNSS Subcritical Experiment Enhanced Capabilities mission, stated that Fuse has established commercial capabilities at the forefront of pulsed-power technology, creating a unique opportunity to advance the field through collaborative research; combining Fuse's proven hardware with NNSS's technical expertise can evaluate emerging technologies, explore new approaches to dense plasma focus systems, and generate insights beneficial to national security missions and the broader fusion community.
