en.Wedoany.com Reported - Algeria's National Railway Transport Company (SNTF), with support from Progress Rail, has completed the modernization of 20 EMD diesel-electric locomotives, which have been reintroduced into service on the country's rail network.
The overhaul work was carried out by local Algerian technicians, focusing on improving locomotive reliability, fuel efficiency, and overall performance. Progress Rail views this project as part of its long-term partnership with SNTF and a demonstration of technology transfer to the local railway workshop.

For SNTF, the direct value of this project lies in extending the service life of its existing diesel locomotives and enhancing fleet availability without waiting for new deliveries. For Progress Rail, the project consolidates its market position in supporting EMD fleets through heavy repairs, control system upgrades, and local maintenance capabilities.
