en.Wedoany.com Reported - The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued a revised type certificate to Boeing, approving the new 737-7 aircraft for commercial service. This certification covers the 737-7's type design and simultaneously updates Boeing's Production Certificate No. 700 (PC 700) to include the 737-7 within its production scope.
Stephanie Pope, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, stated that this certification validates the rigor of the aircraft's design and recognizes the determination and resilience of the 737 MAX development team. She added that the team, while overcoming challenges, the prolonged pandemic, and the transition to new certification processes, remained focused on completing all requirements to deliver safe and more capable aircraft to customers.
The 737-7 is the smallest but longest-range member of the 737 MAX family, accommodating 135 to 160 passengers in a two-class configuration with a range of up to 3,800 nautical miles (7,040 kilometers)—approximately 10% more range potential than other models in the same family. Like other 737 MAX aircraft, the 737-7 reduces fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 20% and its noise footprint by 50% compared to the airplanes it typically replaces. The model also features a performance package designed for airlines operating from high-altitude and high-temperature airports.
This regulatory approval marks the culmination of years of certification work. The certification test program began in 2018 and included more than 1,000 hours of flight and ground testing, extensive system safety analyses and human factors reviews, as well as an updated engine anti-icing system to address issues identified during flight testing. Mike Sinnett, Boeing's senior vice president of Product Strategy, Product Development, and Development Programs, stated that through this certification program, Boeing has gained a clearer understanding of the latest regulatory requirements, which is expected to accelerate the development of future aircraft and re-emphasize human factors, safety, and quality.
Boeing and launch customer Southwest Airlines are preparing to receive the first 737-7 aircraft. A team is preparing the initial aircraft, including implementing updates to the aircraft's final configuration. To date, the 737 MAX family order book exceeds 7,200 aircraft, with more than 2,300 delivered as of the end of June 2026.
Regarding other members of the 737 MAX family, the 737-8 accommodates 160 to 180 passengers with a range of up to 3,500 nautical miles (6,480 kilometers); the 737-9 features three additional rows of seats compared to the 737-8, accommodating 175 to 195 passengers with a range of up to 3,300 nautical miles (6,110 kilometers); and the 737-10, the largest model in the family, accommodates 185 to 210 passengers with a range of up to 3,100 nautical miles (5,740 kilometers).
