Mexican Mining Chamber (Camimex) expects $6.4 billion investment in 2026 but warns of project stagnation

In releasing its 2026 Annual Report, Camimex noted that if regulatory certainty and permit approvals are strengthened, the industry's short-term investment potential could exceed $14 billion, with total investment potential surpassing $40 billion by the end of the decade.

The expected growth will be driven primarily by mine expansions, operational maintenance, and machinery purchases. Among these, mine operational maintenance accounts for the highest expenditure at $1.11 billion, followed by project expansions at $976 million, and equipment purchases at $835 million. These funds are aimed at enhancing operational capacity, extending mine life, and improving productivity.

Mexico remains one of the world's leading silver producers and is also a significant supplier of copper, gold, and zinc. Notable companies operating in the country include Grupo México, Industrias Peñoles, Fresnillo, Torex Gold, First Majestic Silver, Agnico Eagle, and Alamos Gold.

Actual investment executed in 2025 ($4.9 billion) fell short of the initial expectation of $5.31 billion. Therefore, the 2026 forecast reflects a recovery in the pace of investment in Mexico's mining sector.
