en.Wedoany.com Reported - US data center operator Crusoe and small modular reactor (SMR) developer Aalo Atomics have announced a partnership to deploy the world's first AI data center powered by nuclear energy. Under the plan, the Crusoe Spark modular data center will begin operations at Idaho National Laboratory in 2027, powered by Aalo's 50MWe Pod reactor. The two companies also plan to expand Aalo Pod deployment to Crusoe's data center portfolio in other regions by the end of 2029.

Cully Cavness, co-founder, president, and chief strategy officer of Crusoe, stated that next-generation AI infrastructure requires reliable, abundant, clean, and scalable power, and Aalo's nuclear reactors are precisely designed to meet this demand. He emphasized that one of Crusoe's core values is "bending the energy curve toward sustainability," and the company adheres to the principle of leveraging its market position to support and accelerate energy innovation, looking forward to working with Aalo to demonstrate to the industry the first AI data center powered by small modular nuclear reactors.

Matt Loszak, CEO of Aalo Atomics, noted that the company is one of only four firms to achieve criticality before the deadline set by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) reactor pilot program, and is now prepared not only for full-power operation of the 10MWe Aalo-X reactor but also for deploying the Aalo Pod to power commercial data centers. He added that Aalo is the only nuclear technology company to have designed and built a nuclear reactor capable of generating 10MW of electricity, an achievement that positions it as a leading power supplier for modern data centers.

Aalo's flagship 50MW Pod combines five 10MWe microreactors into a single unit, cooled by sodium and air with no external water requirement. Crusoe's modular Spark data center features a containerized design capable of delivering nearly 1MW of AI computing power. This partnership marks Crusoe's second nuclear deal, following its 2025 agreement with Blue Energy to develop a planned 1.5GW nuclear-powered campus in Texas.
