en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 2, the construction of the communication, signaling, and power systems officially commenced for the Western Railway Mining Line in Algeria, Africa's first desert heavy-haul railway.

The railway mining line spans a total length of 950 kilometers, with China Railway Construction Corporation and a local state-owned enterprise undertaking the construction of 575 kilometers of it. This is the largest infrastructure project undertaken by Chinese enterprises in Algeria. Since the project was opened to traffic in February this year, it has improved Algeria's national railway network, facilitating connectivity and economic development in the country's southwestern provinces.

Dong Lin, General Manager of China Railway Construction Corporation Algeria Company, stated that this "three systems" project involves the construction design and implementation of signaling and communication facilities for 10 stations and 28 passing loops, as well as 4 centralized control centers. It covers the design, procurement, construction, commissioning, trial operation testing, and training of operations and maintenance personnel for the communication, signaling, and power systems along the entire line. The project will establish a modern operational control, information transmission, and power supply system for the Western Railway Mining Line in Algeria, providing strong support for the development of local mineral resources and economic diversification.

The Western Railway Mining Line is a vital infrastructure project in Algeria, regarded as a transportation route that drives the nation's economic development. Once operational, it can transport 50 million tons of iron ore annually and also accommodate passenger needs, bringing convenience to residents along the route.
