en.Wedoany.com Reported - Peru's Minister of Energy and Mines (MINEM), Guillermo Shinno, held a working meeting with congressmembers from the Loreto region to discuss promoting an adequate fuel supply and improving electricity access in the Amazon region.
Attending the meeting were Senator Juan Carlos del Águila and Congressmembers César Vidaurre, Nary Pinasco, and Ana Yuffra. During the meeting, Shinno stated that MINEM is evaluating measures to strengthen the regulatory framework for the oil and gas subsector, with the aim of enhancing market oversight and transparency, as well as developing temporary alternative solutions to address the current price situation and reinforce fuel supply in the region.
He emphasized that promoting oil exploration, creating appropriate conditions to attract new sustainable investment, and fostering competition are intended to ensure that energy resources help strengthen energy security, drive economic activity, and meet domestic market demand. Regarding the coordination between oil and gas activities and the environment, Shinno noted that progress must be made in a responsible and harmonious manner, striking a balance between energy development and environmental and social considerations.
Regarding electricity services, Shinno stated that "cities do not develop without energy." He argued that strategies should be developed to achieve efficient and reliable power generation and to advance electricity interconnection in Loreto, so that energy development accompanies the growth of cities and productive activities. Shinno also indicated that President Keiko Fujimori's government will strengthen its intervention in rural electrification projects, expanding energy access to the country's most remote areas through renewable energy initiatives such as photovoltaic power plants. These actions will meet the population's growing demand, provide continuous and reliable electricity service, and promote the development of households and productive activities.
The attending congressmembers expressed their willingness to collaborate on promoting lasting solutions to ensure Loreto's energy supply and called for short-term measures to meet transportation needs and close the energy gap. MINEM reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining dialogue and coordinated work with Loreto authorities and representatives to promote the expansion and improvement of energy access, strengthen supply security, and foster sustainable investment conducive to regional development.
