en.Wedoany.com Reported - FedEx, one of the world's largest express transportation companies, launched a direct cargo route on August 4, 2026, connecting its Asia-Pacific hub in Guangzhou with Sydney, Australia. The route operates five flights per week using B777 freighters, and is expected to reduce transit times for shipments from key Asian markets including South China, Hong Kong, China, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines by up to one day, with delivery to Australia in as fast as two business days. This enhances the efficiency of import shipments to Australia, providing customers with more efficient and reliable delivery options.

The new route delivers two direct benefits to customers. First, it improves fulfillment efficiency, shortens product time-to-market, and effectively reduces inventory costs. Second, it strengthens growth momentum by expanding into emerging areas of China-Australia trade, such as new energy products, smart manufacturing, and cross-border e-commerce. The upgraded service supports growing intra-Asia trade and Asia-to-Australia import trade, offering customers shipping high-value or time-sensitive goods greater stability and predictability.
Koh Poh Yian, President of FedEx China, stated that as China's trade landscape continues to evolve, timeliness, stability, and resilience are becoming increasingly important for import and export businesses. By strengthening the direct connection between Guangzhou and Sydney, FedEx will help Chinese companies enter the Australian market faster, enhance network reliability, and build more flexible supply chains as they expand cross-border operations.
China has been Australia's largest trading partner, largest export destination, and largest import source for 16 consecutive years. In 2025, China's total import and export volume with Australia reached 1.47 trillion yuan, with exports exceeding 546 billion yuan, an increase of 8.5% over the previous year. Leveraging industrial advantages and complementary demand, China and Australia continue to expand cooperation in areas such as agricultural products, new energy vehicles, electronic equipment, and health and wellness products.
The new direct route fully leverages the hub efficiency of the Guangzhou Asia-Pacific hub. As a key node seamlessly connecting China with FedEx's global air network, the hub consolidates cargo flows from Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the Indian subcontinent, further strengthening logistics network connectivity and global supply chain flexibility. FedEx will continue to invest in logistics network optimization, digitalization, and visibility tools to provide Chinese companies with smarter, more efficient, and more sustainable transportation services.
