en.Wedoany.com Reported - Locomotive leasing company Alpha Trains has recently delivered a Stadler EURO9000 locomotive to rail freight operator Freightliner DE. The locomotive features a dual-mode traction design, enabling electric operation on electrified mainlines and diesel traction on lines without overhead catenary, suitable for sections such as plant tracks and yards that still require diesel power support.

This delivery is part of a contract for 12 EURO9000 locomotives that Alpha Trains ordered from Stadler in 2023, with delivery of the batch scheduled to continue through 2026. Previously, Alpha Trains had allocated two locomotives from the order to operator Lineas under full-service leasing arrangements.

Freightliner DE stated that its German mainline traction has long been centered on Class 66 diesel locomotives, with a focus on high availability, maximum tractive effort, and last-mile capability. The company's standard train gross weight can reach 3,600 tonnes, and can exceed 4,000 tonnes under favorable line and axle load conditions. For Freightliner DE, the operational value of this EURO9000 lies primarily in the combination of traction modes, rather than the novelty of the platform itself.

Freightliner DE's core market is domestic and cross-border freight transport within Germany. The company describes itself as an operator of traffic flows between Germany and Poland and beyond, with business covering bulk commodities, grain, energy, mining, steel, and traction services.
