en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 5, due to rising river water temperatures caused by persistent high-temperature weather, the Krško Nuclear Power Plant, jointly operated by Croatia and Slovenia, announced that it would reduce reactor power starting from August 6.

The Krško Nuclear Power Plant is located in Krško, Slovenia, adjacent to the Sava River. According to Croatian media reports, the plant's operator announced on August 5 that, due to persistently abnormal hydrological and meteorological conditions of the Sava River, reactor power would be gradually reduced starting from August 6, with the first step lowering it to 80% of maximum capacity.

Croatian media, citing a statement from the plant's operator, said that the measures taken this time are planned, controllable, and temporary, aimed at ensuring compliance with relevant environmental regulations. If the hydrological and meteorological conditions of the Sava River continue to deteriorate, reactor power will be further reduced.

The report stated that the Krško Nuclear Power Plant uses cold water from the Sava River for cooling and then discharges the heated water back into the river. Relevant environmental provisions impose strict limits on the daily average water temperature and the average daily temperature increase of the Sava River near the plant, in order to protect aquatic life such as fish.

Several European countries have recently experienced persistent high-temperature weather. Drought has lowered water levels in many rivers, and some nuclear power plants have shut down reactors due to insufficient cooling water.
