en.Wedoany.com Reported - Guyana is expanding energy partnerships across the Caribbean, leveraging the rapid growth of its offshore oil industry to advance regional cooperation in upstream development, infrastructure, and energy security. The country has recently signed multiple agreements with Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, and others, extending collaboration from offshore exploration and production to cross-border investment, refining, infrastructure, and commercial development.

In June this year, Guyana and Jamaica signed four bilateral agreements, with both sides agreeing to establish a joint energy working group to advance cooperation through knowledge sharing, infrastructure development, and regional energy security initiatives. This agreement is part of its broader regional strategy. In May this year, Guyana and the Dominican Republic established an upstream partnership through an agreement covering the Berbice Block. The Dominican state-owned refiner Refinería Dominicana de Petróleo acquired a 10% participating interest in the block, while both governments committed to expanding cooperation in refining, petrochemicals, and regional energy security.
Cooperation among oil and gas producers in the Caribbean is also accelerating. Trinidad and Tobago earlier this year proposed closer coordination with Guyana and Suriname in upstream development, natural gas commercialization, and energy infrastructure, with a focus on integrating Guyana's rapidly growing oil production with Trinidad's mature liquefied natural gas (LNG), refining, and petrochemical industries.
Guyana plans to increase crude oil production to 1.3 million barrels per day by 2027 and 1.7 million barrels per day by 2030, making it one of the fastest-growing oil producers globally and gradually becoming a key driver of regional energy development.
Beyond the Caribbean, Guyana is also strengthening international cooperation to support its energy expansion, including energy security and infrastructure agreements with the United States and expanded commercial ties with Canada.
Regional integration is expected to be a core theme at the Caribbean Energy Week 2027. Government officials, operators, and investors will discuss accelerating cross-border investment and enhancing the Caribbean's role in the global energy market.
