Successful Hoisting of Core Heat Exchanger for China's Feicheng 2×300MW Salt Cavern Compressed Air Energy Storage Project

en.Wedoany.com Reported - The 2×300MW (Phase I) salt cavern compressed air energy storage power station project in Feicheng, undertaken by PowerChina, has reached a critical milestone. The first core heat exchanger of Unit 2, constructed by Shandong Electric Power Construction No.1 Company, was successfully hoisted into place recently, marking the project's transition into the equipment installation phase.

The compression-side gas-water heat exchanger hoisted this time is an ultra-long, ultra-heavy high-pressure pressure vessel, with a net weight of 148.27 tons and a total length of nearly 19.3 meters, posing significant construction challenges. The project team developed a dedicated construction plan and strictly followed the full-process control standards for hazardous engineering. All preparatory work, including bearing capacity verification, lifting point calibration, path planning, and emergency drills, was completed before the hoisting, along with comprehensive safety and technical briefings. Ultimately, the heat exchanger achieved millimeter-level precise positioning, and the hoisting operation succeeded on the first attempt.

This project is a key national demonstration project under the national energy strategy and is currently the salt cavern energy storage demonstration project with the largest single-well diameter and the highest operating pressure in China. The project adopts non-supplementary-fired adiabatic compressed air energy storage technology, with a system round-trip efficiency exceeding 70%, achieving zero-carbon operation through closed-loop thermal energy recovery.

With the completion of the core heat exchanger hoisting, the key milestone for the installation of Unit 2's thermal system has been cleared, laying the foundation for subsequent pipeline connection and system commissioning. This project has established a replicable technical pathway and construction plan, providing strong support for the large-scale application of high-capacity salt cavern energy storage in China, while also contributing to the construction of a new energy system and regional green, low-carbon development.
