Google Unveils Three New Subsea Cable Routes and Branch Plans in the Americas

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 11, Google announced an expansion of its subsea communications network in the Americas, introducing three new subsea cable systems—Alisios, Canoa, and OlaLuz—along with a new branch to the Dominican Republic on the existing Firmina cable. These routes will join existing cables such as Curie, Nuvem, and Sol to form the "Americas Connect" network.

The Alisios cable is planned to connect the Dominican Republic, Panama, and Chile, carrying data transmission between the Caribbean region and the Pacific coast of South America. According to Google's announced network architecture, this route will link Chile and Panama, and through a segment extending from Panama to the U.S. West Coast, it will connect to Google's cloud regions in Chile, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas.

The Canoa cable will connect the Dominican Republic and Bermuda, interlinking with the Nuvem and Sol transatlantic cables. The resulting routes will extend to the United States and Europe, providing access to Google's cloud regions in South Carolina, Virginia, and Madrid, Spain.

The OlaLuz cable is planned to connect the Dominican Republic and Florida, U.S., creating a new direct route from the Caribbean to the U.S. East Coast. The segment of Alisios between Panama and the Dominican Republic will also connect to a ring network leading to the U.S. East Coast, corresponding to Google's cloud regions in South Carolina and Virginia.

The Firmina cable, originally used to connect North and South America, will now add a new branch making a direct landing in the Dominican Republic. All three new cables use the Dominican Republic as a connection hub and extend respectively to South America, Bermuda, and the U.S. East Coast, forming three network paths across the Pacific, Caribbean, and Atlantic in conjunction with existing cables.
