en.Wedoany.com Reported - UBBO Shopping Resort in Amadora, Portugal, in partnership with Helexia, has completed one of the largest self-consumption solar plants in the country's commercial center sector on its rooftop. The project features over 3,000 solar panels with a total installed capacity of 1.7 MWp, expected to generate 2.5 GWh of clean electricity annually.
The electricity generated by the plant will directly serve the building's own operations, helping to improve the property's environmental performance and enhance its BREEAM rating—one of the most widely adopted international sustainability standards in the real estate industry. The project also aligns with the environmental policies implemented by CBRE, which manages the center.
At the asset level, this initiative further reinforces the commitment of UBBO's asset manager, BNP Paribas Asset Management Alts, and external operations manager, Eurofund Group, to developing and operating assets that combine strong performance with environmental and social responsibility.
Nelson Pita, Operations Director at UBBO Shopping Resort, stated that the commissioning of this plant reflects the operator's ongoing efforts to build a more responsible environment for retailers and visitors, with the goal of combining experience, innovation, and environmental responsibility to enhance the project's long-term performance and value.
The project was developed and implemented by Helexia, a multinational energy transition operator within the Voltalia Group. Due to the installation site being located on a rooftop with dense technical infrastructure, including HVAC (AVAC) systems and other critical equipment ensuring the mall's continuous operation, the project team conducted detailed structural analyses to ensure all safety and performance conditions were met. The overall construction demanded a high level of engineering planning and coordination.
Luís Pinho, General Manager of Helexia Portugal, stated that this project demonstrates the feasibility of integrating complex technical solutions into continuously operating buildings, making a substantial contribution to the decarbonization of the sector.
With the completion of this plant, Helexia's cumulative operational photovoltaic capacity in commercial facilities in Portugal has exceeded 10 MW, further expanding the company's market coverage in the country.
In parallel with advancing the energy transition and reducing its operational environmental footprint, UBBO has also obtained the "Escolha Sustentável" (Sustainable Choice) certification for the first time. This award, managed by the ConsumerChoice organization, recognizes Portuguese products and services committed to environmental, social, and economic sustainability. According to the evaluation rules, brands must achieve a score exceeding 70% in the comprehensive assessment to receive this recognition, demonstrating that sustainability is genuinely integrated into their business practices. The certification comes as UBBO continues to invest in solutions that enhance operational efficiency, reduce emissions, and create sustainable value for retailers, visitors, and other stakeholders.
