en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 7, the Pune Municipal Corporation in Maharashtra, India, launched a tender for the Chandni Chowk to Bhugaon road upgrade project, with a tender value of approximately ₹1.64 billion. The project includes road widening, an underpass, a flyover, a river bridge, and the construction of main carriageways and service roads.

The project will be implemented in two phases. The first phase primarily involves the construction of a 430-meter-long underpass at the PVPIT College junction, along with the main carriageways and service roads of the 60-meter-wide planned road. The structure includes an 80-meter approach ramp toward Chandni Chowk, a 230-meter approach ramp toward Bhugaon, and a 120-meter-long main concrete structure.

The second phase will involve the construction of an 870-meter-long flyover in the Ambrosia Chowk and Patil Nagar Chowk area, including a 151-meter approach ramp toward Chandni Chowk and a 175-meter approach ramp toward Bhugaon. The main concrete structure of the flyover is 544 meters long and 23.2 meters wide.

The project also includes a new bridge across the Ramnadi River, measuring 30 meters in length and 70 meters in width, which will form a comprehensive road system together with the flyover, ground-level main carriageways, and service roads on both sides. Some existing road sections along the Chandni Chowk to Bhugaon corridor are only about 10.3 meters wide, while the widening target set by the Pune City Development Plan is 60 meters.

The tender for the main construction work is valued at approximately ₹1.64 billion. Of this, the first-phase main construction cost is approximately ₹562.8 million, and the second-phase cost for the flyover, river bridge, service roads, and main carriageways is approximately ₹1.0798 billion, totaling approximately ₹1.6426 billion.

The total project investment previously approved by the Pune Municipal Corporation is approximately ₹2.0361 billion. Funds beyond the main construction cost will be allocated for quality testing, project management consultancy, material royalty fees, taxes, and other ancillary expenses. The municipal department plans to allocate construction funds on an annual basis.

Chandni Chowk is a key transportation gateway in western Pune. The project road connects to the Mumbai–Bengaluru Bypass Highway and the corridor leading to the Mumbai–Goa National Highway, and will also link with the ring road planned by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority.

The road upgrade will also improve connectivity between Pune and the Hinjewadi IT Park, as well as the Pirangut, Roha, Bhagad, and Mangaon industrial areas. The current population of Bhugaon and surrounding areas is approximately 90,000, with projections suggesting it could grow to between 200,000 and 300,000 in the future, leading to continuously rising traffic demand and urban development intensity along the corridor.
