en.Wedoany.com Reported - Lithuanian solar software provider PVcase has announced that its Ground Mount solar design software now supports exporting project files in the PVC 2.0 format. PVC 2.0 is an open, standardized file format designed to enable seamless sharing of project design data between solar software tools, eliminating the need for manual reformatting. This feature targets solar engineers who frequently transfer project data between multiple design and simulation tools, including PVsyst—a process that previously relied on manual file conversion or data re-entry, which was both time-consuming and prone to errors. With PVC 2.0, engineers can now send designs directly into compatible simulation tools without having to rebuild or correct project data.

According to the company's Global Communications Manager, José Herráez, the current version's implementation of PVC 2.0 focuses on geometry, enabling the export of 3D project layouts that include tracker torque tube geometry, joint and motor clearances, terrain meshes, and overhang geometry for various frame types. Terrain data is embedded directly within the .pvc2 file, helping to avoid alignment issues associated with separate terrain files. Broader mechanical and electrical model data is planned for future development.
The format's interoperability with PVsyst has been validated. During development, PVcase and PVsyst confirmed mutual compatibility through direct testing, with both teams continuously exchanging feedback on issues identified on each side of the workflow and iteratively fixing defects in their respective implementations before release. PVcase states that PVC 2.0 reduces manual file preparation and data discrepancies during software handoffs, enabling a more consistent design-to-simulation workflow within the data scope supported by both the exporting and importing applications; the accuracy and completeness of each transfer depend on the data scope implemented and supported by each application.
PVcase CEO David Trainavicius stated that reliable project decisions begin with reliable data, and open standards provide an opportunity for the industry to collectively address interoperability challenges. By supporting PVC 2.0 in Ground Mount, PVcase is advancing this effort from industry discussion into the daily workflows of solar engineers.
