en.Wedoany.com Reported - Noon Energy and Sabanci Renewables have announced a partnership to jointly develop ultra-long-duration energy storage projects with a total capacity of up to 1 gigawatt and 100 gigawatt-hours of storage, providing round-the-clock renewable power for large-scale computing infrastructure. Commercial deployment could begin as early as 2027, with specific projects, site selections, and final investment decisions yet to be announced.

The collaboration will combine Noon Energy's reversible electrofuel battery systems with Sabanci Renewables' portfolio of utility-scale renewable energy projects. Noon Energy's storage technology does not rely on relatively scarce metals such as lithium, but instead utilizes abundant elements like carbon and oxygen to store energy, enabling storage durations exceeding 100 hours. The system can shift electricity from peak solar or wind generation periods to low-generation periods, helping solar and wind power operate as stable electricity sources. At maximum scale, the storage system could theoretically deliver 1 gigawatt of power continuously for 100 hours, with actual operational performance depending on project design and other factors. This scale is aimed at large power users requiring stable, round-the-clock electricity.
The partnership comes as electricity demand from large data centers is rising, placing greater pressure on developers to find reliable, low-emission power sources. Long-duration energy storage can compensate for the intermittency of renewable generation by shifting electricity across time periods.
Noon Energy CEO Chris Graves stated that partnering with an established and forward-thinking company like Sabanci Renewables is a critical step in accelerating the commercialization of Noon Energy's ultra-long-duration energy storage (ultra-LDES) technology. Through the collaboration, the two companies will develop commercial, technical, and operational frameworks to achieve a 100% reliable and renewable grid at a cost of a few cents per kilowatt-hour, leveraging multi-day energy storage technology.
Sabanci Renewables currently operates and constructs four utility-scale solar plants in the ERCOT market in Texas, with a total capacity of 790 megawatts (DC), and plans to achieve a 3-gigawatt renewable energy portfolio in the United States over the next five years. The new agreement may enable future renewable projects to incorporate long-duration energy storage from the outset of planning, providing developers with more predictable power delivery profiles. Murat Oguz Arcan, Chief Growth Officer of Sabanci Renewables and Managing Director of Sabanci Climate Ventures, stated that innovative power solutions are essential to supporting AI growth and achieving timely and sustainable expansion; combining Noon Energy's ultra-long-duration energy storage technology with Sabanci Renewables' renewable energy expertise helps contribute to the development of the clean, reliable, and scalable energy infrastructure needed for the AI economy.
Noon Energy has raised over $45 million through venture capital and government grants. The two companies will next evaluate project opportunities while developing the commercial, technical, and operational frameworks required for potential deployment.
