Genentech, a Roche Group Company, Invests $750 Million to Expand Oregon Fill-Finish Facility
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 20, Genentech, a member of the Roche Group, announced plans to invest approximately $750 million to build a new medical device fill-finish production facility at its 75-acre campus in Hillsboro, Oregon, USA. This investment will double the size of the existing plant, with commercial operations expected to begin in 2031.

The new facility will focus on the production of advanced drug delivery devices, including pre-filled syringes and autoinjectors. The plant is designed with a high degree of flexibility to accommodate the diverse filling needs of Genentech's product portfolio, ranging from high-volume established products to low-volume pipeline products. This expansion will add end-to-end device filling capabilities to the site, further strengthening its U.S.-based pharmaceutical manufacturing supply chain.
Genentech stated that this investment is expected to create 250 high-wage manufacturing jobs and support approximately 200 construction jobs during the building phase. Since its establishment in 2006, the Hillsboro campus has been a key node in Genentech's West Coast manufacturing network, broadly supporting drug production in areas such as oncology, immunology, and neuroscience. This expansion follows the topping-out of its new manufacturing facility in Holly Springs, North Carolina, and represents another significant step in Roche and Genentech's commitment to strengthening U.S.-based manufacturing and R&D.
"We are proud to make this significant new investment in Hillsboro," said Ashley Magargee, CEO of Genentech. "By adding end-to-end filling capabilities, this expansion deepens our commitment to manufacturing in the U.S. and gives us the flexibility to support our growing product pipeline." Oregon Governor Tina Kotek also noted that this investment will create hundreds of high-wage jobs and reinforce Oregon's leadership in the life sciences sector.
