As of July 2026, Tata Power Promotes Rooftop Solar and Storage to 500,000 Households in Bihar, India
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 20, Tata Power's subsidiary Tata Power Solaroop launched the "Ghar Ghar Solar" campaign in Patna, Bihar, India, aiming to install rooftop solar systems in 500,000 households over the next three years. The campaign also unveiled the battery energy storage product "Mysine," with storage solutions starting from 5 kWh.

The campaign leverages the central government's "PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana" scheme, supplemented by additional subsidies from the Bihar state government. Central financial assistance can reach up to ₹78,000; the Bihar cabinet recently approved an additional subsidy of ₹10,000/kW, bringing the combined subsidy to ₹40,000 for 1 kW systems, ₹80,000 for 2 kW systems, and up to ₹98,000 for systems of 3 kW and above.
The campaign introduces a "Pay Just ₹999" financing plan, allowing households to start installation with a down payment of just ₹999, with the remaining cost covered through financing. The repayment period extends up to 60 months, and digital loan approval is available instantly. For a 1 kW system, for example, the monthly EMI after subsidies is approximately ₹932. Tata Power Solaroof also offers residential customers one year of free solar insurance from Tata AIG.
Praveer Sinha, CEO and Managing Director of Tata Power, stated at the launch event that Bihar has yet to catch up with other states in solar adoption, and this campaign aims to drive the state's distributed renewable energy transition. Sanjay Banga, CEO of Tata Power Renewable Energy, noted that Bihar's distribution companies charge electricity tariffs of ₹7.5 to ₹8 per unit, with rooftop solar potential reaching 32 GW, while the state's peak demand is only around 9 GW.
The Mysine battery energy storage product is designed to address electricity needs during excess solar generation or grid outages. Sanjay Banga stated that if users currently run a diesel generator for one hour per day, switching to a storage system could recover the investment within two years. Tata Power has previously conducted Ghar Ghar Solar campaigns in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, and other states.
