en.Wedoany.com Reported - Econetix, a global carbon asset management company, has announced the expansion of its carbon project portfolio with a new biochar and bamboo project in Vietnam, developed in partnership with EcoNations. Located in Khanh Hoa Province, Vietnam, the project will establish a 240-hectare bamboo plantation to provide a long-term, sustainable feedstock supply for biochar production.

The project will operate a continuous pyrolysis facility with a daily processing capacity of 40 tonnes, expected to produce 12,000 metric tonnes of biochar annually, with the product used for carbon removal and sold as a soil amendment. The project's carbon dioxide removal (CDR) will be accounted for under Puro.earth's Puro Standard biochar methodology. According to the developers, once operating at full capacity, the project is expected to generate 30,000 CORCs (CO2 Removal Certificates) annually, achieving carbon dioxide sequestration for over a century through biochar application. The project combines engineered carbon removal with sustainable bamboo cultivation, creating dual carbon revenue streams while delivering rural employment opportunities and improving soil health locally.

During the first four years of operation, the facility will use Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified acacia and eucalyptus biomass as feedstock, sourced from qualified suppliers covering more than 16,000 hectares within a 50-kilometer radius of the project, a measure aimed at eliminating early-stage supply risks. From the fifth year onward, the project plans to shift feedstock sourcing to its own bamboo plantation, which will have reached first harvest by then. According to the developers' estimates, this transition is expected to achieve approximately 74% feedstock self-sufficiency by the sixth year, reducing feedstock costs from approximately $3.8 million to $1.5 million annually.

To track CDR outcomes, the project will utilize Econetix's proprietary digital Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (dMRV) platform, which has previously been deployed across more than 15 carbon projects. Under the current schedule, Econetix and EcoNations expect to achieve first CORC issuance in the first half of 2028.
