en.Wedoany.com Reported - Saudi Arabia's leading terminal operator, Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT), and CMA CGM Group have signed a definitive agreement to jointly develop and operate Terminal 4 at Jeddah Islamic Port in partnership with the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani). The project involves a direct investment of approximately $434 million (SAR 1.6 billion) and will add up to approximately 2.6 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of annual handling capacity to the port upon completion, making it one of the largest foreign direct investments in Saudi Arabia's maritime sector.

The agreement was signed in Paris on the sidelines of the Franco-Saudi Investment Roundtable, attended by Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and French President Emmanuel Macron. The project directly serves the objectives of Saudi Arabia's National Transport and Logistics Strategy and Vision 2030.

The project will build a state-of-the-art container terminal within RSGT's existing concession area. The development includes new deep-water berths capable of accommodating the world's largest container vessels, equipped with advanced terminal technology and 10 new ship-to-shore cranes to enhance productivity, efficiency, and service reliability for customers in Saudi Arabia and the wider region. The upgraded maritime infrastructure will strengthen Jeddah Islamic Port's ability to efficiently serve large vessels and major international shipping services, supporting greater trade volumes, enhanced global connectivity, and more efficient access to international markets for Saudi imports and exports.

Terminal 4 will be developed adjacent to RSGT's existing terminal complex at Jeddah Islamic Port and will operate as a dedicated container terminal under the RSGT-CMA CGM partnership. The project aims to provide critical future capacity to meet Saudi Arabia's growing trade demand while reinforcing the port's position on major global shipping routes. The addition of deep-water berths will enable the terminal to efficiently accommodate larger next-generation container vessels, helping to attract and retain major shipping services, increase cargo flows, and enhance connectivity between Saudi businesses and global markets. This, in turn, will support the competitiveness, resilience, and efficiency of Saudi Arabia's import and export supply chains.

This partnership will combine RSGT's proven operational excellence and local expertise with CMA CGM Group's global shipping network, logistics capabilities, and terminal operation experience. Together, they will build a world-class facility capable of serving the world's largest container vessels while delivering enhanced connectivity, operational efficiency, and customer service levels. The project represents a long-term commitment to Saudi Arabia's economic growth, trade competitiveness, and logistics transformation agenda. This development further consolidates the successful partnership between Saudi Arabia (represented by the Saudi Ports Authority), RSGT, and CMA CGM Group, and demonstrates Saudi Arabia's continued ability to attract world-class international investors to support the growth of its logistics sector and strengthen its position in global trade networks.

Suliman bin Khalid Al-Mazrou, President of the Saudi Ports Authority, stated that the agreement is a significant milestone reflecting Saudi Arabia's investment appeal in the maritime sector and the growing confidence of global investors in the Saudi port ecosystem. He added that the project builds on Mawani's ongoing efforts to develop port infrastructure and enhance competitiveness, supporting the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy in line with Vision 2030.

Amr Abdullah Alireza, Executive Chairman of RSGT's Board of Directors, stated that this partnership is a defining milestone for both RSGT and Saudi Arabia's maritime sector. It reflects Saudi Arabia's ability to attract world-class international investors and demonstrates growing confidence in the Kingdom's economic future, its logistics ambitions, and its strategically central position in global trade.

Lars Wang Kristensen, Group Chief Executive Officer of RSGT, stated that today's signing marks an important milestone in the development of RSGT and Jeddah Islamic Port, and that the agreement reflects RSGT's long-term commitment to supporting Saudi Arabia's logistics ambitions and serving its valued customers. Through the upcoming partnership with CMA CGM Group, and with the continued support of the Ministry of Transport and Logistic Services and Mawani, this project will significantly enhance container capacity, strengthen RSGT's competitiveness, and create long-term value for Saudi Arabia.

Rodolphe Saadé, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of CMA CGM Group, stated that as global trade patterns continue to evolve and infrastructure needs to expand and modernize, terminals are becoming increasingly strategic assets, essential for securing operations, strengthening major trade corridors, and delivering greater reliability to customers. Together with RSGT, he is taking an important step forward in Jeddah to build an advanced terminal capable of handling the world's largest container vessels and equipped with state-of-the-art technology. This investment reflects CMA CGM's long-term commitment to Saudi Arabia and its determination to support the Kingdom in strengthening its position as a leading global trade and logistics hub.

This project represents another major step in the ongoing transformation of Saudi Arabia's maritime sector and will further reinforce Jeddah Islamic Port's role as a key gateway connecting global trade routes.
