Toyota Unveils GR GT/GT3 with 641 HP, Targeting Launch Around 2027
en.Wedoany.com Reported - Toyota's motorsport division, Toyota GAZOO Racing (TGR), has unveiled two new flagship prototype models—the GR GT and the GR GT3. Both models were developed in collaboration with professional drivers. The GR GT is positioned as a road-legal track-focused car, while the GR GT3 is a competition model built to international GT3 racing regulations. The new vehicles introduce Toyota's first all-aluminum body frame in their technical architecture, powered by a newly developed 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine.
In terms of powertrain, the GR GT features a hybrid system combining a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with a single electric motor, targeting a maximum system output of over 641 bhp (650 DIN hp/478 kW) and a maximum system torque of over 850 N·m. The development team has prioritized three core development elements: a low center of gravity, lightweight high rigidity, and aerodynamic performance. By lowering the overall vehicle height and driver's seat position, and adopting a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive powertrain layout, the vehicle's center of gravity is further reduced. The optimized placement of heavy components such as the engine and rear-mounted transaxle significantly lowers the center of gravity height, while the driver's seating position has been adjusted so that the occupant's center of gravity roughly aligns with the vehicle's, enhancing the sense of unity between driver and machine and improving handling convenience.
The GR GT features Toyota's first all-aluminum body frame in its body structure. This frame uses large aluminum castings in the main structure, optimizes the arrangement of components such as aluminum alloy extrusions, and employs advanced joining technologies to achieve high rigidity. The body panels are made from aluminum alloy and carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP).

The suspension system adopts a newly developed front and rear low-mount double wishbone structure with forged aluminum control arms. Designed from the ground up, this suspension aims to deliver linear response and a high level of control across a wide range of conditions, from everyday driving to extreme handling. The aluminum space frame chassis and double wishbone suspension base structure have been developed, with many of their components shared with the GR GT3.
The two-seat GR GT targets a curb weight of under 1,750 kg (approximately 3,860 lbs), with a front-to-rear weight distribution of 45:55. Both the GR GT and GR GT3 are currently in the development stage, with Toyota planning to bring both models to market around 2027.
