China's Self-Developed F-Class Heavy-Duty Gas Turbine Achieves First Complete Set Export

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On the 28th, China's self-developed F-class 50-megawatt heavy-duty gas turbine G50 was shipped from Deyang, Sichuan, to the international market, destined for Zhambyl Region, Kazakhstan. This marks the first complete set export of China's self-developed F-class heavy-duty gas turbine.

Heavy-duty gas turbines are core equipment in power generation and drive applications, reflecting a nation's overall heavy industry capability, and are hailed as the "jewel in the crown" of industrial equipment manufacturing. For a long time, the global heavy-duty gas turbine market has been monopolized by a few international giants.

The G50 is China's first F-class 50-megawatt heavy-duty gas turbine, independently developed by Dongfang Electric Corporation over 13 years. It was listed as one of China's first (sets) major technical equipment projects in the energy sector in 2021, breaking the foreign monopoly. In November 2025, Dongfang Electric signed the G50's first overseas order—supplying three G50 units for a power generation project in Zhambyl Region, Kazakhstan.

It is understood that the project exported to Kazakhstan adopts the "gas-steam combined cycle" technical route, which efficiently generates power while also meeting heating demands, and is a key project approved by the local Ministry of Energy. Li He, Deputy General Manager of Dongfang Turbine Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Dongfang Electric Corporation, stated that in addition to providing complete sets of equipment for the project, they are also offering full life-cycle service support for the units.

"We have united over 300 domestic upstream and downstream research institutes, universities, and enterprises to jointly cultivate and build the domestic heavy-duty gas turbine industrial chain," said Tian Xiaojing, Deputy Director of the National Key Laboratory of Clean and Efficient Turbine Power Equipment under Dongfang Electric Corporation.

In Deyang, Sichuan, the birthplace of the G50, more than 30 key gas turbine manufacturing supporting enterprises in the upstream and downstream industrial chain work in a coordinated division of labor, with a local supporting rate exceeding 40%.

Feng Zhenping, a professor at Xi'an Jiaotong University, said that China's manufacturing industry has an independent and complete supporting industrial chain, and once technological challenges are overcome and core technologies are independently mastered, production capacity can be rapidly formed.

Previously, Nanjing High Accurate Drive Equipment Manufacturing Group Co., Ltd. formed a joint R&D community with Dongfang Electric, completing the development of the domestically produced gearbox required for the G50 in just four months.

As domestic gas turbines go global, the "going overseas" of industrial chain enterprises is also accelerating. Ma Maosheng, Business Director of Nanjing High Accurate Drive Equipment Manufacturing Group Co., Ltd., said: "We closely follow the upgrade roadmap of the leading enterprise, proactively pre-position production capacity, and simultaneously tackle intelligent manufacturing processes to achieve synchronized iteration of supply and demand." He noted that in addition to supplying local enterprises, the company has also become a supplier to foreign gas turbine giants due to its cost-effective products and fast delivery, with products having been exported to Central Asia, Southeast Asia, Russia, and other regions since 2024.
