Tokuyama Inaugurates Semiconductor-Grade Polysilicon Plant in Vietnam

en.Wedoany.com Reported - Tokuyama's subsidiary TOKUYAMA VIETNAM held an opening ceremony for its semiconductor-grade polysilicon plant at the Phu My 3 Specialized Industrial Park in Ho Chi Minh City. The plant covers approximately 50,000 square meters, with a total investment exceeding $60 million, and is designed with a maximum annual processing capacity of approximately 4,955 tons.

The plant primarily handles the back-end processes of semiconductor-grade polysilicon production, including crushing polysilicon rods into small-sized materials suitable for wafer manufacturers' furnaces, as well as performing cleaning, quality inspection, and product sales. Following the plant's opening, trial operations and quality verification will be conducted, with commercial production scheduled to begin in 2027.

TOKUYAMA VIETNAM was established on August 8, 2024, wholly owned by Tokuyama, with a registered capital of 580 billion Vietnamese dong. Tokuyama stated that the company is the first enterprise in Vietnam engaged in the manufacturing and sales of semiconductor-grade polysilicon. When the project was planned in 2023, the estimated investment was approximately $30 million; however, as plant construction and equipment installation progressed, the investment scale announced at the opening ceremony had increased to over $60 million.

The Vietnam plant does not undertake the complete polysilicon synthesis process from raw materials but instead focuses on the crushing, cleaning, and inspection of high-purity polysilicon. Some processing steps require manual operation to reduce potential metal contamination from mechanical crushing and to adjust product dimensions according to wafer customer requirements.

Tokuyama is also building a semiconductor-grade polysilicon semi-finished product plant with OCI in Malaysia with an annual capacity of 10,000 tons. According to its regional production arrangement, the Malaysia base handles front-end production including polysilicon synthesis and deposition, while the Vietnam base is responsible for back-end processing and quality control, with products from both sites jointly supplying semiconductor wafer manufacturers.
