India's Acutaas Chemicals builds semiconductor materials plant in South Korea in 11 months, investing KRW 30 billion

en.Wedoany.com Reported - Acutaas Chemicals Limited (Acutaas Chemicals), an Indian specialty chemicals manufacturer, has commissioned a semiconductor materials manufacturing plant in Gongju, South Korea, officially entering the high-purity semiconductor materials market.

The plant is operated by Indichem Inc., Acutaas' indirect subsidiary in South Korea, and took just 11 months from groundbreaking on September 29, 2025, to commencement of production, with its official inauguration held at the ceremony.

The joint venture model combines Acutaas' chemical synthesis capabilities in India with South Korea's expertise in ultra-high-purity materials refining and production. Chemicals are synthesized in India and then shipped to South Korea for refining, testing, and semiconductor-grade qualification, bringing operations closer to the customer base.

The Gongju site covers 16,513.7 square meters and includes a main production building, a combined headquarters/R&D/pilot plant, and a warehouse, with land reserved for future expansion. Indichem is held by Acutaas' wholly owned subsidiary Acutaas Advance Material Limited (AAML) and South Korean company J & Materials Co. Ltd. in a 75:25 ratio, with AAML having invested KRW 30 billion (approximately INR 200 crore) in the joint venture.

The company stated that the plant will focus on niche semiconductor materials requiring purity levels in the parts per billion (ppb) range, making stringent quality control and specialized technical expertise critical to production.

Naresh Patel, Chairman and Managing Director of Acutaas Chemicals Limited, stated that the plant becoming operational 11 months after groundbreaking reflects the extraordinary discipline of both partners. He said that combining India's core strengths in complex chemical synthesis with South Korea's expertise in ultra-high-purity refining creates a synergy model that neither company could achieve alone, marking a critical step toward semiconductor materials becoming a long-term growth engine for Acutaas.

Jay Han, CEO of Indichem Inc., stated that the strategy aims to bring Acutaas' capabilities in India directly into South Korea's semiconductor ecosystem. He said that the two companies' shared ambition has now become an operating state-of-the-art plant, with the approach from the outset being not to ask customers to come to India, but to "bring India to South Korea," and expressed confidence that this is the starting point of a long-term partnership to build one of South Korea's leading semiconductor materials companies.

The Gongju plant provides Acutaas with a local manufacturing and technology platform in South Korea, a key semiconductor market, while enabling it to leverage existing chemical synthesis capabilities in India. With production, R&D, and expansion infrastructure in place, the company is expanding its semiconductor materials business using the India-South Korea partnership as a platform.
