ACES and Movandi Sign Memorandum of Understanding for 5G/6G Technology Collaboration

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 31, Saudi Arabia's Advanced Communications and Electronic Systems Company (ACES) and wireless communications semiconductor company Movandi signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding during LEAP 2026 in Riyadh, under which the two parties will conduct joint research and development, validation, and commercialization collaboration on millimeter wave, Open RAN, 5G, and future 6G wireless infrastructure, covering Saudi Arabia, the Middle East, and other markets.

Under the collaboration arrangement, ACES will contribute its R&D capabilities in 5G small cells, Open RAN, radio frequency front-ends, antennas, digital platforms, and next-generation 5G/6G systems, while Movandi will provide millimeter wave RF, RFIC, antenna, beamforming, and semiconductor technologies. The two parties plan to conduct joint R&D on millimeter wave connectivity, RF front-ends, indoor and outdoor 5G small cells, and Open RAN architectures, as well as advance prototype validation, field testing, proof-of-concept deployments, and subsequent commercialization.

ACES has already completed end-to-end R&D for shareable 5G small cell products in Saudi Arabia, covering RF, antennas, and systems, and has developed a MORAN architecture for multi-operator neutral host networks, a test environment based on srsRAN, and RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) development and testing capabilities. The company's related 5G small cell products have generated 5 registered intellectual property rights.

In May of this year, ACES completed the deployment of an O-RAN neutral host indoor 4G/5G small cell system at the King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) in Riyadh. The system adopts the O-RAN Split 7.2 architecture, with the 5G portion operating in the n78 band and configured with 4×4 MIMO, and 4G Band 1 and Band 3 using 2×2 MIMO, enabling multiple operators to carry their respective independent 4G and 5G services over shared wireless infrastructure. The deployment was implemented by ACES in collaboration with Mavenir, with participation from Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and mobile operators including Mobily.

ACES has also previously developed a shared 5G small cell RF front-end solution for the n78 band, supporting 3 carriers with a bandwidth of 100MHz per carrier and configured with 4×4 MIMO. Its R&D framework also covers O-RAN network architecture design, RF and antenna engineering, network performance monitoring, and related systems for private 5G networks.

At LEAP 2026, Movandi is simultaneously showcasing technologies including millimeter wave fixed wireless access, smart repeaters, wireless backhaul, Open RAN, and intelligent mesh networks. Its BeamXR series of millimeter wave smart repeater solutions can be used in indoor, outdoor, and mobile scenarios, with beamforming, beam steering, and mesh link management performed through software-defined beam networks. The company's product portfolio also includes RF chips, antenna modules, and software-defined networking technologies.

Movandi also released the MV3564 and MV3514 frequency synthesizers ahead of the exhibition, targeting applications such as 5G and future 6G infrastructure, CPE, gNodeB, O-RAN, wireless backhaul, and AI data center interconnect, and these products have now entered production sampling. The company stated that its existing technology portfolio holds more than 130 granted patents and that it has established a business operations presence in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
