US ONE Nuclear Plans 2.88GW Power Project and Battery Energy Storage System
en.Wedoany.com Reported - Advanced nuclear energy company ONE Nuclear has secured site control for a 2.88-gigawatt power project in Louisiana, which includes plans for a large-scale battery energy storage system and a co-located data center campus.

The project, named Project Cayman, is located near the RiverPlex MegaPark in Louisiana, northeast of the infrastructure expansion recently announced by SpaceX. ONE Nuclear stated that it has signed a binding letter of intent with a local group of landowners.
As planned, the supporting battery system will have an energy storage capacity of 2.88 gigawatt-hours and can discharge when needed. The gas-fired power plant will provide dispatchable electricity for the project itself and surrounding industrial loads, while the co-located data center campus is expected to generate significant incremental electricity demand. This layout comes as Louisiana welcomes a wave of new industrial and technology projects with high demands for reliable power supply.
ONE Nuclear stated that Project Cayman is being developed in tandem with major transmission investments planned by Entergy in the region. As electricity demand rises, the combination of new generation, storage, and transmission capacity is expected to strengthen the stability of the local grid. The project is also adjacent to several large-scale developments, including SpaceX's Starbase project and Hyundai Motor's planned $5.8 billion steel plant.
Richard Taylor, CEO of ONE Nuclear, said: "Project Cayman's 2.88 gigawatts of generating capacity demonstrates ONE Nuclear's commitment to supporting the future economic growth of one of Louisiana's most important industrial regions. This project will provide the reliable energy needed to support new investment, create jobs, expand the local tax base, and bring additional funding to community priorities and critical infrastructure."
The company has not yet disclosed a construction timeline or estimated cost for Project Cayman. This announcement pertains solely to site control and subsequent development progress and does not represent a confirmed start of construction for the entire power complex.
The project's design reflects an industry trend toward the integrated co-location of power generation facilities and large-scale electricity consumers. Data centers typically require substantial and continuous power supply, while battery systems can provide additional regulation capacity during periods of high demand or grid stress. ONE Nuclear stated that the project aims to deliver scalable energy infrastructure for Louisiana's continuously expanding industrial and technology sectors.
Taylor said: "ONE Nuclear is proud to invest in the region to support the rapidly growing energy demand created by recently announced developments such as the SpaceX Starbase project and Hyundai Motor's $5.8 billion steel plant." The company stated that community outreach efforts have already begun, with public information meetings for local parishes, government agencies, and other stakeholders expected to be held between September and December 2026.
Project Cayman is part of ONE Nuclear's overall strategy, which focuses on developing utility-scale natural gas and advanced nuclear power generation for industrial and grid applications. The company stated that its platform is designed to deliver power that can quickly reach the market while advancing the application of advanced nuclear technology.
ONE Nuclear is also concurrently advancing its business combination with Hennessy Capital Investment Corp. VII. Hennessy VII shareholders approved the transaction on August 24, 2026, and the combined company is expected to list under the ticker symbol ONEN after the transaction closes in the second half of 2026, subject to customary closing conditions.
