Nigeria's Sahara Power Commences $12 Million, 12MW Gas Power Plant Construction

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 27, Sahara Power Enterprise Group officially launched the construction of the Ogba Independent Power Plant in Lagos, Nigeria. The project has an investment of $12 million and a planned installed capacity of 12MW. It is located within the Ogba Undertaking supply area of Ikeja Electric Plc, with construction scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2027.

This project is an embedded natural gas power generation initiative, which will be equipped with 6 gas generator sets, each with a capacity of 2MW. Cummins has confirmed that the power station will utilize 6 HSK78 natural gas generator sets, with its client being IPCPL under Sahara Power Group. Sahara Power has also confirmed that the construction of the power station will be undertaken by Cummins West Africa Limited.

Upon completion, the power station will supply electricity to areas including Ogba, Acme Road, Wemco Road, and surrounding regions, serving industrial clusters, commercial users, residential communities, and public institutions. Ikeja Electric, as the operator of the distribution network where the project is located, is participating in the collaboration. Its Chief Operating Officer, Olajide Kumapayi, confirmed during the project kick-off event that the company is working with Sahara Power on this independent power plant.

Sahara Power held the project's groundbreaking ceremony on August 27 and confirmed on the same day that construction had already commenced. Cummins West Africa will subsequently undertake the construction of the gas power plant, providing natural gas power generation solutions and 6 HSK78 generator sets.
