Saipem awarded commissioning contract for Turkey's Osman Gazi floating production unit
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 8, Saipem was awarded a new contract by GOE Petrol Sanayi to provide commissioning services for the Osman Gazi Floating Production Unit (FPU) used in the development of the Sakarya gas field in the Turkish Black Sea. The contract execution period is expected to be approximately 8 months, with the value undisclosed. This award extends the readiness and assurance support services contract Saipem secured in April this year, further covering the commissioning phase ahead of Osman Gazi's start-up.

The Osman Gazi FPU is the core production facility for the second phase of the Sakarya gas field development. The unit is 298.5 meters long, with a gas processing capacity of up to approximately 10.5 million cubic meters per day and an export capacity of approximately 10 million cubic meters per day. It will be connected to 10 production wells via two subsea manifolds and will deliver gas to shore through an approximately 161-kilometer gas export pipeline. The unit is scheduled to commence operations in the fourth quarter of 2026 following the completion of offshore installation, testing, and commissioning.
The Sakarya gas field is located in the Turkish Black Sea, approximately 170 kilometers from the coast, at a water depth of about 2,150 meters, and is developed by Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO). Discovered in 2020 and brought into production in 2023, the field has now established a multi-well production system. Following the start-up of the second phase project, Turkey plans to increase daily Black Sea gas production to approximately 20 million cubic meters.
The Osman Gazi was originally a cargo vessel built in South Korea in 1989 and converted into a floating production unit in Singapore in 2008. After leaving Singapore in July 2024, the unit underwent steel structure renewal, deck reinforcement, and equipment overhaul in Turkey, and arrived at Filyos in 2025 to continue installation of the production modules and supporting systems. The 8-month commissioning contract awarded to Saipem will cover the system commissioning phase prior to its formal entry into operations at the Sakarya field.
Saipem is also currently undertaking multiple offshore work packages for the Sakarya Phase 3 development. In September 2025, the company was awarded contracts worth approximately USD 1.5 billion for the EPCI of eight rigid flowlines and a 24-inch diameter gas export pipeline approximately 183 kilometers long; in January this year, it received an additional contract of approximately USD 425 million to tie back the newly discovered Goktepe gas resources to the Phase 3 infrastructure, adding approximately 153 kilometers of pipeline and associated subsea structures.
