en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 8, Belgium-based D-CRBN awarded Worley the engineering design contract for its renewable syngas demonstration plant in Antwerp. The project will build a modular, skid-mounted demonstration plant at an industrial site in Antwerp, using D-CRBN's proprietary plasma technology to produce renewable syngas from carbon dioxide and biomethane, with a design capacity of approximately 200 tonnes per year. Worley is responsible for multi-discipline engineering design, safety studies, and cost estimation, providing the engineering basis for subsequent construction.

The core process of the plant is D-CRBN's responsibility. Its plasma system is electrically driven, converting carbon dioxide and biomethane into syngas without relying on solvents or conventional catalysts. This engineering design requires integrating the plasma reactor, syngas purification, gas separation, and related utilities into a complete demonstration plant. D-CRBN remains responsible for the proprietary plasma reactor technology, while Worley undertakes the balance-of-plant process and overall plant engineering design.

Worley had previously participated in the project's concept development, with work including conceptual design of the syngas purification process, reactor scale-up assessment, and industrial implementation planning. This new contract advances the project from concept development to the detailed engineering design stage, adding safety analysis and cost estimation work, and providing the design basis for subsequent construction preparation.

The demonstration plant will adopt a modular and skid-mounted design. D-CRBN plans to use the plant to obtain process data under continuous industrial operating conditions and to validate the integrated operation of carbon dioxide, biomethane, and the plasma reaction system at an actual industrial site. The design is also intended for subsequent scale-up, with the commercial plant targeting a capacity of approximately 10,000 tonnes of renewable syngas per year.

D-CRBN is currently also advancing the GASTLY project in Belgium, collaborating with Aquafin and Eastman on biogas-to-syngas validation. The technical objectives include producing syngas from biogenic carbon dioxide and biomethane, and adjusting the hydrogen-to-carbon ratio to approximately 2:1 for subsequent synthesis of chemicals such as green methanol. The 200 tonnes per year Antwerp demonstration plant is the next-stage project in its progression from pilot validation to industrial demonstration and commercial scale-up.
