Digital Parks Africa to Build Carrier-Neutral Data Centre in Lagos, Nigeria

en.Wedoany.com Reported - South African data centre operator Digital Parks Africa announced during ITW Africa 2026 in Nairobi, Kenya, that it will build Nigeria Data Centre 1 (NDC1) in Lagos, Nigeria. This marks the company's first expansion of its data centre business beyond South Africa and its first data centre project in West Africa. NDC1 is positioned as a carrier-neutral facility, offering colocation and interconnection services to financial institutions, cloud service providers, network operators, and other enterprise customers.

Digital Parks Africa has formally launched cooperation with Uptime Institute for NDC1, with the goal of advancing the Tier IV Certification of Constructed Facility assessment. This cooperation means the project will advance its design and construction in accordance with Tier IV facility certification requirements, but Tier IV certification has not yet been obtained. The company has also not disclosed NDC1's IT load capacity, number of racks, floor area, project investment amount, or specific commissioning timeline.

NDC1 will adopt a carrier-neutral model, not tied to any single communications service provider, and plans to offer customers multiple network access and interconnection options. Digital Parks Africa stated that the project primarily targets banks, financial institutions, cloud service providers, and connectivity service providers, meeting demand for localized data hosting, cloud services, and high-availability digital infrastructure.

Digital Parks Africa currently operates the Samrand data centre in South Africa, with its business covering colocation, infrastructure hosting, interconnection, and carrier-neutral services. The company maintains a business relationship with Master Power Technologies, which has been conducting power and critical infrastructure-related business in Nigeria since 2001. NDC1 represents an extension from the existing Nigerian market foundation into the data centre operations segment.

Nigeria is currently promoting investment in local cloud, data centre, and digital infrastructure. On September 10, the National Information Technology Development Agency of Nigeria stated that the national cloud infrastructure strategy is generating new data centre demand through policies such as data localization, local processing of financial transactions, and sovereign cloud, and is allowing operators to adopt renewable energy, gas power generation, and independent power purchase agreements to address data centre power supply.
