Russia and India Plan to Sign Nuclear Energy Cooperation Documents and Discuss Site Selection for New Units in India

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 11, Alexey Likhachev, Director General of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom (Rosatom), stated that Russia and India have completed a high degree of preparation on a series of bilateral cooperation documents in the field of nuclear energy, and the relevant documents have reached a stage where they can be signed directly.

Likhachev said that the documents to be signed include cooperation on fourth-generation nuclear energy technology, involving the technical direction of fast neutron reactors.

He also stated that Russia is discussing with the Indian side the specific locations for jointly building new nuclear power units in India using Russian technology, and the relevant communication counterparts include the Indian Department of Atomic Energy as well as major Indian private companies. Likhachev said that no formal decision has yet been made and discussions are still ongoing.

Likhachev mentioned that India had previously passed the Sustainable Use and Development of Nuclear Energy for India's Transformation Act (referred to as the "Peaceful Act"), which replaced the previous laws governing the implementation of nuclear energy projects in India and allows Indian private enterprises to participate in nuclear energy projects.

He stated that with the implementation of the new act, Rosatom, in addition to maintaining cooperation with the Indian Department of Atomic Energy, is also consulting with other major partners on the construction sites and technology application plans for new nuclear power units.
