en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 11, King County, Washington, issued the final proposal procurement documents for the GC/CM for the Harborview Medical Center Ninth and Jefferson Building 3T MRI project, marking the entry of the project into the final selection stage for the general contractor/construction manager. Final candidates are required to submit price proposals by September 22, and the procuring entity plans to issue a notice of intended award on September 25 and to sign the pre-construction services agreement in early November.

The project is located on the third floor of the Harborview Medical Center Ninth and Jefferson Building in Seattle. The core work is to renovate and prepare a 3T MRI installation space within the existing outpatient imaging area, while upgrading the existing outpatient imaging program. The MRI main unit and associated chillers will be procured and installed by Harborview Medical Center under a separate contract. This GC/CM contract is primarily responsible for pre-construction services, on-site renovations, and architectural and MEP coordination related to equipment installation.

The space was reserved during the original building design phase for future MRI equipment installation, and some mechanical and electrical infrastructure serving the MRI cooling system was also completed in previous works. This round of work still needs to address specialized shielding, structural reinforcement, and specific utility requirements corresponding to the high-field superconducting magnet, and to coordinate construction interfaces with other construction contractors and the owner's equipment suppliers. The Washington State Office of Minority and Women's Business Enterprises previously announced an estimated contract value of approximately US$7 million for the project.

The procurement adopts the GC/CM model. During the pre-construction phase, the contractor is required to work with the owner, architect, and design team on constructability reviews, cost estimating, construction phasing, schedule organization, and risk management. Construction takes place within a continuously operating medical facility, imposing specific requirements for noise control, construction logistics, continuity of hospital operations, and phase transitions. The procurement documents also require bidding teams to provide healthcare project experience, key personnel qualifications, safety records, and participation by minority, women, and veteran-owned businesses.

The current final procurement schedule shows that a site walkthrough for candidates is scheduled for September 15, on-site interviews may be arranged for September 17, price proposals and public cost opening will be completed on September 22, and a notice of intended award is planned for September 25. The pre-construction services agreement is expected to be signed on November 5, a notice to proceed is expected on November 9, the design development phase is planned for completion on November 30, negotiation of the guaranteed maximum price is scheduled to begin in January 2027, and construction permits are planned to be obtained by the end of January 2027.

The project had already formally issued the GC/CM RFP in August, so the news angle for this September milestone is not a "first tender," but rather the contractor selection entering the final proposal and pricing stage. The official project page of the Harborview Bond Program also confirms that Flourish serves as the owner's advisor and Jamieson Architecture serves as the project designer.
