Italy's Irplast Commissions 30,000 t/y High-Performance BOPP Film Production Line

en.Wedoany.com Reported - Irplast, an Italian film manufacturer under the TOPPAN Group, held a commissioning ceremony at its Atessa plant to officially launch a high-performance BOPP (biaxially oriented polypropylene) film production line using simultaneous biaxial stretching technology. With this line in operation, the Atessa plant's total high-performance BOPP film supply capacity will reach approximately 30,000 t/y.

The new line uses LISIM simultaneous biaxial stretching equipment supplied by Germany's Brückner Maschinenbau. Irplast had previously applied LISIM technology at the Atessa plant, and the addition of this new production line will further expand its capacity for high heat resistance, high mechanical strength and high transparency BOPP films, primarily targeting recyclable mono-polypropylene material packaging structures.

According to information disclosed by TOPPAN, this type of BOPP film can serve as the outer substrate for environmentally friendly packaging, combining with materials such as polypropylene barrier films to form mono-material packaging structures, reducing the use of materials such as aluminum foil in traditional multi-material composite packaging. The related products are mainly aimed at food, personal care and other flexible packaging applications, and are compatible with the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation's requirements for packaging recyclability.

This new production line is part of Irplast's industrial investment plan in recent years. Public information shows that the company has launched an investment plan totaling more than EUR 60 million covering the expansion of the Atessa production base, equipment upgrades and international market expansion, with the new BOPP production line being one of its core projects.

Irplast currently operates 3 production bases in Italy, of which 1 is located in Empoli and 2 are located in Atessa. The company's 2024 operating revenue was approximately EUR 102 million, with about 75% of its products exported to more than 70 countries and regions. In 2025, Irplast was integrated into Japan's TOPPAN Group, becoming an important production platform for its European high-performance film and sustainable packaging materials layout.
