All 65 turbines installed at the 704MW Revolution Wind offshore wind farm in the United States

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 18, the 704MW Revolution Wind offshore wind project developed by Ørsted and Skyborn Renewables completed the installation of all 65 turbines. The project has entered the remaining commissioning and grid-connection ramp-up phase, and is planned to achieve commercial operation within 2026. The project began delivering power to the New England grid in March of this year. Once fully operational, it will supply 400MW to Rhode Island and 304MW to Connecticut.

Revolution Wind uses 65 Siemens Gamesa SG 11.0-200 DD offshore wind turbines, each with a capacity of 11MW. The first turbine was installed in September 2024; as of August 2025, construction of all offshore foundations for the project had been completed, with 45 turbines in place at that time and overall project completion at approximately 80%. With all 65 units fully erected, the offshore turbine installation phase has ended, and the current focus has shifted to turbine commissioning, electrical system integration testing, and the remaining grid-connection work.

The project is located in waters approximately 15 nautical miles south of the Rhode Island coast. Once completed, it is expected to meet the equivalent electricity demand of more than 350,000 New England households. The project's offshore substation, submarine cables, onshore transmission facilities, and turbine array together form the transmission system, which entered the phased power generation stage through its first power delivery in the spring of this year.

The project experienced two work stoppages during construction. The U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management issued a stop-work order in August 2025, and a federal court subsequently approved a preliminary injunction in September, allowing construction to resume; in December of the same year, the project received another federal stop-work directive, at which time 7 turbines remained uninstalled. In January 2026, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia approved the project developer's application for a preliminary injunction, and construction resumed once again.

Revolution Wind was originally planned to achieve commercial operation in 2025. Due to offshore construction vessel maintenance, delays in onshore substation construction, and work stoppages, the commercial operation date was adjusted to the second half of 2026. Now that all turbine installations are complete, the project continues to advance the remaining commissioning work.
