China Aims to Push BeiDou Industry Past 1 Trillion Yuan in Five Years, Targeting High-End Chips and Key Components

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 22, Li Chao, deputy director of the Policy Research Office of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), said at the September press conference that China will continue implementing the BeiDou large-scale application project, push the scale of the BeiDou industry to exceed 1 trillion yuan within five years, and advance industrial expansion from three aspects: key technologies, institutional systems, and international cooperation. The NDRC had previously explicitly set this industrial scale target during the 2026 National Two Sessions.

On the technological front, efforts will focus on tackling core technologies such as high-end chips, key components, and fusion algorithms, while strengthening the integration of BeiDou with artificial intelligence, satellite internet, and other technologies, optimizing the layout of satellite navigation infrastructure, and cultivating enterprises in related industrial chains. Recently released BeiDou industry research materials show that as of the end of 2025, cumulative shipments of domestically produced BeiDou-compatible chips and modules approached 2.6 billion units, the total social ownership of various terminal products with BeiDou functions exceeded 2.2 billion units (sets), and the ownership of BeiDou terminal equipment in key domestic industries approached 40 million units (sets).

In terms of institutional development, the NDRC will promote the promulgation and implementation of the Satellite Navigation Regulations of the People's Republic of China, improve BeiDou industry standards, testing, and certification systems, and increase the degree to which certification results are accepted in relevant industries and application scenarios. Concurrent industrial policies also propose supporting research and development of technologies such as BeiDou chips, algorithms, anti-interference, and satellite-terrestrial integration, and advancing the coordinated development of satellite navigation, satellite internet, and space remote sensing.

Large-scale BeiDou applications have now entered fields such as transportation, smart agriculture, public safety, intelligent vehicles, consumer electronics, and low-altitude applications. As of the first half of 2026, 39 pilot cities for large-scale BeiDou applications had cumulatively promoted more than 12 million units (sets) of BeiDou independent positioning application terminals, the proportion of smartphones in China supporting BeiDou positioning exceeded 98%, and more than 100 million passenger vehicles had been equipped with BeiDou onboard positioning devices.

In terms of international cooperation, subsequent efforts will rely on multilateral cooperation mechanisms to advance technical exchanges, talent training, and joint demonstration projects, and to expand overseas applications of BeiDou products and services. At present, the BeiDou system and related technologies have served more than 140 countries and regions worldwide, and the integration of BeiDou with satellite internet, artificial intelligence, and spatiotemporal information services has also been included in the next stage of industrial layout.
