China's Self-Developed F-Class Heavy-Duty Gas Turbine Exported as Complete Sets for the First Time

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 23, the G50, an F-class 50 MW heavy-duty gas turbine independently developed by China Dongfang Electric Group, departed from the Khorgos Port in Xinjiang and was shipped to Jambyl Region, Kazakhstan. This export involves a total of 3 G50 turbine units, which will be used in a local gas-fired combined cycle power generation project and can simultaneously meet both power generation and heat supply needs.

This batch of equipment was dispatched from Deyang, Sichuan on August 28. Among them, "Dongfang Shuguang" No. 1 G50 will be used for the first 1×70 MW gas-fired combined cycle power station in Jambyl Region. The project adopts a gas-steam combined cycle technology route. In addition to supplying the complete G50 equipment, Dongfang Electric also undertakes full life-cycle service support for the turbine units. In response to the extreme cold climate of Jambyl Region and the local small power grid's peak-shaving needs, Dongfang Steam Turbine carried out adaptive design and modifications for the export units.

The project had already entered the construction phase. In November 2025, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the relevant combined cycle power generation project in Jambyl Region, and Dongfang Steam Turbine confirmed that it would provide 3 independently developed G50 heavy-duty gas turbines as core equipment for the project. The project is being advanced with approval from Kazakhstan's energy authorities. Before equipment selection, the owner conducted approximately six months of technical evaluation and global equipment comparison for the candidate solutions.

The G50 was independently developed by Dongfang Steam Turbine under Dongfang Electric Group, with a rated power of 50 MW per gas turbine unit. The first unit had previously completed a "72+24" hour operation assessment at the distributed energy station in the Deyang Economic and Technological Development Zone in Sichuan and was put into commercial operation. Around this model, Dongfang Electric has developed capabilities covering complete machine R&D and manufacturing as well as commissioning, spare parts, overhaul, and operation and maintenance services. This Kazakhstan project corresponds to the G50 overseas equipment supply and subsequent operation service phase.
