Safran Singapore Landing Gear MRO Center Expansion Commences Operations with US$22 Million Investment
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 22, Safran Landing Systems inaugurated the expanded portion of its aviation landing gear maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) center in Singapore. The expansion, which involved a US$22 million investment and received support from the Singapore Economic Development Board, added 7,500 square meters of floor space, with core facilities including a new aircraft landing gear overhaul assembly line.
The expanded Singapore facility continues to handle the complete commercial aircraft landing gear repair process, from disassembly, inspection, machining and surface treatment through to reassembly and final certification. Its existing service coverage includes the Airbus A320 family, A330, A350 and A380, as well as the Boeing 737, 787 and ATR regional aircraft. The newly added assembly capacity is primarily intended to expand landing gear overhaul throughput and increase production scheduling flexibility among maintenance tasks for different fleets.
The facility entered operation in 1979 and has maintained a partnership with SIA Engineering Company since 2000. It is currently one of Safran Landing Systems' core industrial facilities for commercial aircraft landing gear MRO operations in the Asia-Pacific region. The site currently employs approximately 360 people and plans to add nearly 100 positions by 2030 following the expansion, while continuing to deploy new repair processes and technical capabilities.
The newly expanded building is also equipped with approximately 2,800 square meters of solar photovoltaic installations, comprising about 800 solar panels, and features LED lighting and a new cooling system. Safran's published estimates indicate that the photovoltaic system's power generation is expected to cover approximately 60% of the facility's electricity demand. These energy installations have been brought into the facility's operational system in tandem with the new landing gear repair line.
Safran Landing Systems currently operates seven related industrial facilities worldwide, with the Singapore site primarily serving airlines in Asia-Pacific and the Middle East. The US$22 million expansion has now transitioned from the construction phase to official operations, and the new production line will work alongside existing disassembly, machining, surface treatment, final assembly and certification capabilities to handle regional landing gear overhaul operations.
