Dutch SCA Secures First Contract with Saipem Worth Approximately USD 20 Million
en.Wedoany.com Reported - Netherlands-based Subsea Cable Assets (SCA) has secured its first contract with Saipem to provide cable transport and transpooling services for the Caspian Sea region, with a contract value of approximately USD 20 million.
Under the contract signed with Saipem Contracting Netherlands BV, SCA will undertake engineering design, fabrication of specific equipment, installation and operations, as well as demobilization and restoration services, in support of a major offshore energy project in the Caspian Sea region.
The scope of work includes the delivery of 5 cable transport carousels, each with a capacity of 1,100 tonnes, along with associated cable handling equipment. The cable spooling equipment will be mobilized onto a cable transport vessel for cable loading at JDR Cable Systems in the UK.
SCA explained that the loaded cable carousels will then be transported to Southeastern Europe, before being transferred via self-propelled modular transporters (SPMTs) onto smaller transport barges and shipped to the Caspian Sea region.
Fabrication of the cable carousels and associated equipment has already commenced at SCA's facility in Dubai, UAE, with shipment to Europe planned before the end of this year.
Sil de Rijke, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of SCA, stated that this multi-million-dollar contract signed with Saipem demonstrates the team's experience in complex cable transport and handling projects, built on an extensive track record accumulated in recent years. He also noted that the true value SCA brings is not just equipment, but also professional project management capabilities that provide end-to-end oversight of planning, logistics, and execution across multiple geographic regions; this operational expertise, combined with spooling and fabrication capabilities, means the company is well-positioned to deliver the project safely and on schedule.
In October last year, Saipem secured three new contracts in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, involving a gas project operated by BP. The scope of work includes transportation and installation (T&I) of a new 19,000-tonne compression platform, as well as engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) of approximately 26 kilometers of offshore pipelines connecting the new compression platform to existing facilities, and includes all major permanent subsea works. Offshore operations are expected to commence in the third quarter of this year, with completion targeted for 2029.
