Port of Palm Beach in the United States Launches Bidding for $43 Million Cruise Terminal Upgrade

The project will include the construction of a new parking garage, the procurement of passenger boarding bridges, the expansion of passenger security screening and baggage handling areas, and the addition of mooring dolphins to enhance the terminal's ability to accommodate longer cruise ships.

The project is listed as a key initiative in the Port of Palm Beach's 2023 master plan, and construction will primarily use existing land within the port area. The existing cruise terminal building has a floor area of approximately 40,000 square feet and is already equipped with federal inspection facilities, passenger boarding bridges, communication systems, passenger lounge areas, and parking facilities. This expansion will further increase passenger processing and berth service capacity.

The Florida Department of Transportation's investment plan also lists the Port of Palm Beach cruise terminal expansion as a seaport capacity project. The planning document proposes that the project reserve conditions for introducing a second homeport cruise ship and consider adding approximately 30,000 square feet of two-story passenger and baggage handling space. The potential additional cruise passenger capacity in the plan is approximately 2,500 people, exceeding the size of the port's existing homeport cruise ship.

The berth renovation component will extend ship mooring conditions through the addition of mooring dolphins, while the new passenger boarding bridges will be used to connect the terminal with cruise ships of different sizes. The parking garage, security screening area, and baggage storage space will be expanded simultaneously, enabling coordinated improvement of ship berthing capacity and landside passenger turnover facilities.

Currently, the Port of Palm Beach has one homeport cruise ship, Margaritaville at Sea Paradise, which has a passenger capacity of approximately 1,680 people and has been operating from the Port of Palm Beach since April 2022. The port's $43 million project will provide terminal conditions for subsequently expanding the number of homeport cruise ships and the scale of ship types.
