Poland's Greenvolt launches 600MW/2.4GWh energy storage project
en.Wedoany.com Reported - Greenvolt Power, the utility-scale renewable energy division of Greenvolt Group, has started construction of a battery energy storage system (BESS) in Siedlce, Poland, with a scale of 600 MW / 2.4 GWh. The facility is Poland's largest battery energy storage project and one of the largest of its kind in Europe, and is expected to enter commercial operation by the end of 2027.

The Siedlce project is part of Greenvolt's battery energy storage asset portfolio. The company's BESS project portfolio currently totals 4.6 GW, of which 2.4 GW is in Poland. Battery energy storage is playing an increasingly important role in its growth strategy, covering both utility-scale projects and, through Greenvolt Next, "behind-the-meter" solutions for commercial and industrial customers across multiple European markets.
João Manso Neto, CEO of Greenvolt Group, said the Siedlce project marks another step by the group from planning to execution, with a focus on building assets, creating real value, and strengthening the infrastructure needed to integrate more renewable energy into the power system. Poland is a key market for the group, and battery energy storage is becoming an increasingly important part of its growth.
The Siedlce project has a power capacity of 600 MW and an energy storage capacity of 2.4 GWh, which will bring greater flexibility to Poland's power system: storing electricity during peak renewable generation periods and feeding it into the grid when demand rises, thereby promoting the grid integration and consumption of wind and solar power generation and helping to balance electricity supply and demand.

With the start of construction at Siedlce, the facility will join Greenvolt Power's battery energy storage project cluster in Poland. The Turośń Kościelna project, with a scale of 200 MW / 800 MWh, was commissioned in July 2026; the Ełk project is also 200 MW / 800 MWh and is expected to enter commercial operation in the fourth quarter of this year. Once all three projects are operational, Greenvolt will have a combined 1 GW of power and 4 GWh of energy storage capacity.
Weronika Nowak, CEO of Greenvolt Power, said that with the battery supply agreement and grid connection agreement formally finalized, Siedlce has now entered the construction phase; the experience gained at Turośń Kościelna and Ełk has laid a solid foundation for implementing a project of this scale, and the current priority is to maintain this momentum and bring the Siedlce plant into operation by the end of 2027.
The project's battery technology is supplied by BYD Energy Storage. The design includes 210 battery containers and 105 transformer containers, the latter equipped with power conversion systems that enable electricity to flow bidirectionally between the batteries and the grid.
