Guangzhou's Xinsha Port in China Completes the First "Vehicle-to-Ship" LNG Bunkering Operation for a Foreign-Flag Car Carrier in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 25, the LNG dual-fuel car carrier "Tingjiangkou," operating on international routes, successfully completed a "vehicle-to-ship" LNG bunkering operation at Guangzhou Xinsha Port. This is the first "vehicle-to-ship" LNG bunkering operation conducted on a foreign-flag car carrier in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. This bunkering model can efficiently supply clean, low-carbon fuel to ocean-going ro-ro vessels, helping the port establish a supporting chain for green shipping. While reducing shipping carbon emissions, it also improves the turnover efficiency of foreign trade routes, empowering the high-quality overseas expansion of automobiles from the Greater Bay Area.

A relevant official from the Guangzhou Maritime Safety Administration introduced that the "Tingjiangkou" used Guangzhou Xinsha Port as its port of departure for this operation, completing the loading of more than 4,600 domestically produced automobiles at the port and carrying out LNG fuel replenishment for the vessel. Guangzhou Xinsha Port has a complex navigable environment and dense vessel traffic. The low-temperature, flammable LNG imposes strict requirements on on-site safety protection. In addition, the dense parking of commercial vehicles on the decks of car carriers creates overlapping risks, placing higher demands on the operation plan, on-site control, and emergency response capabilities.

To ensure the safe conduct of both the LNG bunkering operation and the loading of new energy vehicles, the Guangzhou Maritime Safety Administration reviewed the operation plan in advance, focusing on the implementation of firefighting and emergency measures and the securing and lashing of vehicles. It continuously strengthened on-site safety reminders, urged enterprises to consolidate their primary responsibility for production safety, and ensured the implementation of operation safety protection measures item by item, firmly safeguarding the bottom line of waterborne safety and escorting the development of green shipping and the overseas expansion of domestically produced new energy vehicles.

As the largest automobile whole-vehicle import port in South China, Guangzhou Xinsha Port is also an important hub for commercial vehicle import and export in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and a key gateway for domestically produced automobiles and new energy vehicles to set sail overseas. It is reported that from January to September 2026, Xinsha Port completed a cumulative 161,600 commercial vehicles for foreign trade export, a year-on-year increase of 258%. The combined model of "green loading + clean energy bunkering" organically integrates the advantages of the new energy vehicle industry with the advantages of green shipping development, effectively promoting the coordinated development of green industries and automobile foreign trade in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and empowering the port area's economy to improve quality and efficiency.
