en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 28, Chris Patrick, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Mobile Handset Business at Qualcomm Technologies, stated during the Snapdragon Summit that Qualcomm is evaluating Samsung Electronics' 2nm wafer foundry process to study its potential for future mobile application processors. Patrick said Qualcomm is still in the understanding and evaluation stage, has not yet determined which specific Snapdragon products will be manufactured by Samsung, and has not announced a mass production timeline.

In September of this year, Qualcomm just released two flagship mobile platforms, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, both of which adopt a 2nm process but are not manufactured by Samsung. Qualcomm officially disclosed that the new platforms continue to use its self-developed Oryon CPU, Adreno GPU, and Hexagon NPU, targeting high-end smartphones and on-device AI applications.

Samsung's wafer foundry business is currently advancing mass production of its second-generation 2nm process. Samsung previously disclosed that its second-generation 2nm process is planned to enter mass production in 2026, and it has already carried out PPA analysis, multi-project wafer testing, and some product-level design work for major customers. In the second quarter of 2026, Samsung also stated that its wafer foundry business is expanding 2nm HPC customer projects and plans to increase production of second-generation 2nm mobile products in the second half of the year.

In addition to the wafer foundry evaluation, Qualcomm and Samsung are currently maintaining cooperation in mobile terminal platforms and memory. In July, the two parties announced an expansion of cooperation on the Galaxy product line, with the Snapdragon platform continuing to be used in Samsung smartphones, smartwatches, and smart glasses products; at the same time, Qualcomm is also working with Samsung to advance technical collaboration related to LPDDR6 mobile memory.
