Renault Trucks France Unveils E-Tech Trafic and Showcases 660 km Range Electric Heavy Truck

en.Wedoany.com Reported - At the IAA Transportation 2026 exhibition in Hanover, Germany, Renault Trucks concentrated its launch of 2027 model year vehicles and a new generation of electric products, among which the newly unveiled E-Tech Trafic is developed on a dedicated battery-electric platform, while the E-Tech T 780 long-haul electric tractor unit was also showcased. Renault Trucks' current electric lineup covers vehicles from 2.8 tonnes to 50 tonnes, with products extending from light commercial vehicles, urban distribution, medium- and heavy-duty transport to long-haul trunk-line transport.

The E-Tech Trafic adopts a battery-electric "skateboard" platform and a software-defined vehicle architecture, with a maximum WLTP combined range of 470 km, an 800V electrical system, and a charging time of approximately 20 minutes from 15% to 80% state of charge, corresponding to a maximum range replenishment of approximately 280 km. The L1 version has a turning diameter of 10.3 metres and a cargo volume of 5.1 cubic metres; the L2 version has a cargo volume of 5.8 cubic metres and an overall height of less than 1.9 metres. The model is scheduled to go on sale in Europe in the first half of 2027.

In terms of long-haul transport products, the E-Tech T series now includes three models: T 540, T 585 and T 780, among which the T 780 offers a maximum single-charge range of 660 km, adopts an e-axle and a new generation of high-energy-density NCA batteries, can utilise up to approximately 95% of battery capacity, and has a maximum payload of 27.4 tonnes in the 6×2 version. The T 585 has a maximum range of 500 km, and the T 540 has a maximum range of 450 km. Renault Trucks' analysis of two years of operational data from 70,000 connected vehicles shows that the new generation of electric products can cover approximately 80% of daily transport tasks, and this proportion can rise to 90% after a single 45-minute fast charge during the driver's rest period.

In the urban distribution segment, Renault Trucks also showcased the E-Tech D 12T and D 14T, both of which use 176 kWh LFP batteries, have a maximum range of 220 km, maximum payloads of 5.6 tonnes and 6.7 tonnes respectively, and are equipped with a 43 kW on-board AC charger. Both models are already available and are produced at the Blainville-sur-Orne plant in France, giving Renault Trucks' electric distribution models coverage of the 12-tonne, 14-tonne, 16-tonne, 19-tonne and 26-tonne classes.

In addition to battery-electric models, Renault Trucks simultaneously introduced the new generation DE13 R diesel powertrain for the 2027 model year T, T High, C and K series. The engine delivers a maximum output of 540 hp and peak torque of 2,800 N·m, paired with an upgraded Optidriver gearbox whose shift speed is up to 20% faster than the previous generation; Renault Trucks previously disclosed that the new powertrain can reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by up to approximately 4%.
