Moeve to Supply 100% Renewable Diesel to Spain's IBW Mine

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 28, Moeve signed an agreement with Emerita Resources to deploy 100% renewable diesel HVO at scale in the Iberian Belt West (IBW) mining project in the province of Huelva, Spain. Under the agreement, Moeve will become the preferred supplier of 2G renewable diesel for the project, with the fuel to be used in heavy machinery during the mine's construction and operation phases, as well as in heavy transport of mineral concentrate.

The HVO in question is produced at Moeve's facility in Palos de la Frontera, in the province of Huelva, and can be used directly in existing diesel engines. The two parties estimate that using this fuel in mine construction and operational transport will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 2,600 tonnes per year; Moeve states that life-cycle emissions can be reduced by up to about 90% compared with conventional diesel.

The IBW project is located between Puebla de Guzmán and Paymogo and is being developed by Emerita Resources. This cooperation directly connects three stages—fuel production, mining operations, and concentrate transport—with the mining-side applications specified for construction machinery, production machinery, and concentrate transport vehicles, making it a practical project energy solution rather than a mere strategic cooperation framework.

To expand its renewable diesel supply capacity, Moeve is building a new second-generation biofuel plant with Apical in Palos de la Frontera. The facility will be part of a large 2G biofuel complex in southern Europe, with cumulative investment of approximately €1.2 billion and planned flexible production capacity of 500,000 tonnes per year for HVO and sustainable aviation fuel. Moeve has also proposed building a related product supply capacity of 2.5 million tonnes per year in the Iberian market by 2030.
