en.Wedoany.com Reported - The German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy has launched the third round of calls for international hydrogen project funding, soliciting proposals from German companies for renewable hydrogen and its derivative projects abroad. During the period from 2027 to 2030, a single project can receive up to €30 million in funding, and the deadline for submitting preliminary project proposals is December 17, 2026. The relevant funds remain subject to the final approval of Germany's 2027 federal budget.

This round of funding mainly covers industrial renewable hydrogen production projects implemented outside the European Economic Area and Switzerland, including production facilities for hydrogen and its derivative products, and can also support project feasibility studies, preliminary scientific analyses, and storage and transportation facilities directly related to production facilities. Projects need to generate a relatively high proportion of German and European value creation and have the conditions to establish future import pathways for hydrogen products.

Applicants for Module 1 can be companies headquartered in the European Economic Area or Switzerland that have a permanent establishment or branch in Germany, and applications must be submitted by a German entity. German small and medium-sized enterprises, hydrogen technology suppliers, and project developers are the key targets of this call; German universities and research institutions can apply for support for accompanying research work. Projektträger Jülich is responsible for accepting and managing the projects.

The application uses a two-stage procedure. Companies first submit project proposals, and after BMWE completes screening and priority assessment, selected projects are invited to submit full funding applications. Under the current arrangements, final funding agreements are expected to be completed in the second half of 2027. Germany will also hold an online information session on October 15 to explain the project application conditions and procedures.

The program has previously supported projects in countries such as Chile, Namibia, Ukraine, Saudi Arabia, and Serbia. After the previous round of calls in 2025, Germany is expected to have approximately 20 new project fundings in place by the end of 2026, covering Southern Africa, the Middle East and North Africa, Asia, South America, and Australia, with project products including renewable hydrogen, green ammonia, methanol, sustainable aviation fuel, and green iron.
