TechnipFMC Completes 66 kV Floating Wind Dynamic Subsea Cable Certification

The product had previously obtained CIGRE TB 722 and IEC 63026 certifications. This certification testing lasted 18 months and used full-scale subsea cables to complete electrical type tests, wet aging tests, and mechanical fatigue tests, with Bureau Veritas providing independent verification of the test results.

The dynamic subsea cable features a three-core, double-armored, double-sheathed copper cable structure, with a rated voltage of 38/66 (72) kV, suitable for 50 Hz or 60 Hz grids, and a maximum conductor operating temperature of 90 degrees Celsius. The certification scope covers water depths of up to 350 meters and a 25-year design life, intended for connecting floating wind turbines that are in continuous motion under the effects of wind, waves, and currents.

During the TB 862 certification process, the cable completed 1.5 million bending fatigue cycles under conditions simulating the harsh sea states of the North Sea. After completing the generic design certification, when a project adopts this model, targeted fatigue testing can still be carried out based on the specific floating body, mooring method, water depth, and sea conditions to confirm performance under project-specific conditions.

The product is manufactured at TechnipFMC's Newcastle facility in the UK and is integrated into the company's Water Column iEPCI integrated delivery system. This system brings dynamic inter-array cables, mooring systems, anchoring equipment, and offshore installation into a single engineering scope, synchronously defining the interfaces between the cable and the floating body, mooring, and installation solutions during the project design phase.

TechnipFMC disclosed that, within the currently completed certification scope, the company can directly incorporate the certified dynamic inter-array cable into the Water Column iEPCI overall engineering package for delivery. The company's existing track record in dynamic subsea cable-related business includes over 90,000 meters of deepwater dynamic subsea cable delivery experience.
