Spain's Talgo launches €105 million next-generation high-speed rail R&D project
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 5, Spain's Talgo officially launched the BasqTrain 35 next-generation trans-European high-speed train R&D project, with plans to invest €105 million over three years, of which €78 million will be allocated to R&D. The project has been incorporated into the "Basque Industry Plan—Euskadi 2030" private-sector-led transformation project system and is expected to create more than 140 new high-skilled positions.

BasqTrain 35 will develop a next-generation high-speed train designed to operate across the railway networks of multiple European countries, with technical solutions including modular traction systems, car adaptation designs, and operating configurations for different railway markets. The project's R&D scope also covers train energy efficiency, advanced manufacturing, artificial intelligence applications, passenger comfort, and accessibility design.
Ingeteam will be responsible for solutions related to power electronics, control, and energy management for the next-generation train, and will participate in the development of distributed traction, new control, and monitoring technologies. The project will also build predictive maintenance and digital systems based on intelligent monitoring, and advance vehicle lightweighting, interior space, and maintenance solution optimization.
The project is led by Talgo, with participants including 12 Basque region companies, 10 of which are SMEs, and with collaboration from the railway industry cluster MAFEX. CEIT will lead R&D institutions in the Basque science, technology, and innovation network to participate in the project's implementation.
