Azerbaijan Plans a 230-Hectare Modern Greenhouse Industrial Zone in Jabrayil

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 5, Azerbaijani Minister of Agriculture Majnun Mammadov stated that the country will build its first centralized greenhouse industrial zone in the Jabrayil District, with a planned area of 230 hectares. The project is located opposite the Aras Valley Economic Zone, and the greenhouse facilities will be concentrated within a single agricultural industrial zone, adopting intensive and modern agricultural technologies.

Under the current implementation model, the main greenhouse facilities will be financed primarily by private investors, while the government will be responsible for connecting electricity, natural gas, and other utilities. The project adopts a centralized development approach, placing cultivation facilities, infrastructure, and downstream processing conditions within the same area.

Azerbaijan's Ministry of Agriculture positions the project as the country's first modern greenhouse project built in a concentrated manner within a dedicated industrial zone. The site is close to the route of the future Zangezur Corridor and adjacent to the Aras Valley Economic Zone, allowing subsequent access to regional roads, logistics, and processing facilities.

The agricultural authorities also made clear this time that the focus of greenhouse expansion is not ordinary low-tech facilities, but rather facility-based agricultural systems using intensive production and modern control technologies. The country also plans to continue expanding modern greenhouse areas in other regions.

Azerbaijan is simultaneously expanding investment in modern agricultural infrastructure. The Minister of Agriculture disclosed that by the end of 2025, the country's farmland area using modern irrigation technology will be approximately 130,000 hectares, with a target of increasing it to 300,000 hectares by the end of 2030, advancing in parallel with the construction of greenhouses, water-saving irrigation, and agricultural industrial zones.
