British Airways' New Lounge at Heathrow Terminal 5 Set to Open by Late 2028
en.Wedoany.com Reported - British Airways has unveiled a new round of lounge investment as part of its broader customer experience transformation strategy. The plan is centered on a brand-new lounge at Gate C in Heathrow Terminal 5, and also includes a comprehensive redesign of the Heathrow Arrivals Lounge, as well as a first class check-in experience jointly launched with American Airlines this winter at Heathrow Terminal 3.
British Airways stated that this round of upgrades is designed to enhance every stage of the customer journey, from arriving at the airport and checking in, to boarding and reaching the destination. The projects announced this time follow the airline's recent lounge openings and refurbishments across its global network, involving Miami, Glasgow, Seattle and Washington; projects in Boston and Newark are currently underway, and lounges in Geneva and San Francisco are scheduled for refurbishment next year.
Sean Doyle, Chairman and CEO of British Airways, said this investment is an important milestone in the evolution of its lounges and reflects the airline's goal of creating a more coherent and consistent customer journey. The spaces will take its lounge design philosophy to a new stage, building on the Miami project to shape a look and feel distinct to British Airways at key customer touchpoints, from the First Wing and lounges through to the onboard experience. By showcasing the best of British design, craftsmanship and hospitality, it will deliver a more premium and seamless experience for customers; the airline says this is only the first step among many planned projects, with further progress in reimagining the customer experience to be announced in the coming years.

At the heart of this investment plan is the new lounge at Gate C in Heathrow Terminal 5, which will become one of the airline's most ambitious lounge projects to date. The facility is scheduled to open by late 2028 and is already under construction; once completed, it will offer expansive views of the apron and the terminal concourse. Themed around flight and contemporary British craftsmanship, the lounge will showcase British Airways' next-generation lounge concept, using premium materials and finishes sourced entirely from across the UK, from bespoke furniture and textiles to finely crafted woodwork, glass and metalwork, presenting the essence of British design and manufacturing throughout the space.
The lounge will create a bright and spacious atmosphere, complemented by striking architectural details inspired by the rhythm and beauty of the sky. Customers can enjoy dedicated areas for dining, relaxing and working, as well as premium pre-flight shower facilities. A highlight will be a 17-meter-long bar, expected to rank among the longest airport lounge bars in the world, creating a central social hub for travelers passing through Terminal 5.
For the airline's most premium customers, an exclusive Concorde Lounge will provide a private retreat, featuring personal concierge service, an upgraded dining experience, and separate areas designed with richer textures, refined finishes and greater privacy. For travelers departing on long-haul flights from the Gate C area, the new lounge will offer an elegant and tranquil environment.

British Airways has also begun a comprehensive redesign of the Heathrow Arrivals Lounge, the first arrivals space created under the airline's new lounge concept. The refurbishment is scheduled to begin in early 2027 and is planned to open by the end of next year. The lounge is designed around the needs of today's premium travelers, helping customers relax and freshen up after a long-haul flight and prepare for the day ahead.
The lounge will feature a coffee bar and deli area, a larger dining area, quiet rest zones and dedicated work booths, and will also offer 59 showers, premium shower suites, and shared changing and preparation areas. First class customers can experience the new Concorde Arrivals, enjoying private pavilions, an elegant dining area, and interiors carefully crafted in the airline's signature blue, red and beige tones. Glass screens, architectural details and a carefully planned layout will further enhance privacy and comfort.

As part of its continued focus on premium travel, British Airways and American Airlines will launch a new first class check-in experience this winter at Heathrow Terminal 3, providing eligible customers with a smooth and premium start to their journey. This exclusive facility is designed to make travelers feel special as soon as they arrive at the airport, with refined interiors inspired by British Airways' acclaimed First Wing at Terminal 5 and the airline's evolving global lounge concept. Rich deep reds and warm tones will create a welcoming atmosphere while reinforcing a consistent premium brand experience.
The new check-in environment has been carefully designed to balance comfort, efficiency and personalized service, ensuring a seamless transition from airport arrival to departure. This initiative reflects the shared goal of British Airways and American Airlines: to deliver outstanding hospitality at every stage of the customer journey, from check-in to arrival at the final destination, always maintaining high standards of comfort, attentive care and service.

Beyond Heathrow, British Airways is continuing to invest in its global lounge network to provide a consistent premium ground experience at key international destinations. These lounge projects are part of a broader transformation plan that extends far beyond airport facilities: the airline has invested heavily in new aircraft, advanced technology and operational improvements to strengthen its position among the world's leading airlines and enhance the overall customer journey.
Recently, the airline announced a comprehensive Airbus A380 retrofit program, with the first retrofitted aircraft expected to enter service in the coming months. The upgraded double-deck fleet will feature fully redesigned cabin interiors, including the new First, Club World, World Traveller Plus and World Traveller cabins.
The retrofit program is described as one of the most ambitious cabin modernization initiatives undertaken by any airline, with more than 35,000 individual parts installed on each aircraft, completely transforming the onboard experience from nose to tail and setting a new benchmark for long-haul travel.
